In what could possibly be the first look into the inner circle of US President-elect Donald Trump and the role Elon Musk could play in Trump 2.0, the Tesla CEO on Wednesday joined him on a call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the future of the ongoing war in Ukraine. According to various US media reports, Musk joined the call at Trump¡¯s invitation.
Musk was present with Trump during the call for roughly 25 minutes and briefly spoke with Zelenskyy, who thanked him for the satellites he had been providing Ukraine through Starlink. During their conversation, Musk said he would continue to provide a satellite internet connection to Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia for more than two years.
Earlier on Wednesday, Zelenskyy had congratulated Trump on his victory and described his call with him as "excellent."
"We agreed to maintain close dialogue and advance our cooperation," Zelenskyy said in a post on X, owned by Musk.
The future of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the possibility of the US under Trump pulling back its support has been one of the most dominant topics during the election campaign. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he could end the Russia-Ukraine war in a matter of days. Many analysts believe that Trump could force Zelenskyy to agree on a deal by which Russia will be allowed to keep the areas of Ukraine it occupied since the start of the war in 2022 by threatening to withdraw US arms supplies.
Musk joining Trump¡¯s call with Zelenskyy did not come as a surprise, as recent reports revealed that the world's richest man had been in regular contact with Putin since late 2022.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, the SpaceX founder and Putin had discussed ¡°personal topics, business, and geopolitical tensions¡± during their conversations.
