68 passengers died in a tragic plane crash in Nepal and five among the dead were Indians. 72 people on board the plane that crashed on Sunday, a spokesman for Yeti Airlines said, as per news agency AFP.
All five Indians who lost their lives in the plane crash in Nepal's Pokhara were from Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh.?
A resident said that of the five Indians, four were planning to indulge in paragliding activities in the tourist hub of Pokhara.
The five Indians were identified as Abhisekh Kushwaha, 25, Bishal Sharma, 22, Anil Kumar Rajbhar, 27, Sonu Jaiswal, 35, and Sanjaya Jaiswal, a Yeti Airlines official said.?
¡°All the four were planning to enjoy paragliding in the lake city and tourist hub Pokhara,¡± recalled Ajay Kumar Shah, a resident of Sarlahi district in southern Nepal,?as per Times Now report.?They were planning to return to India from Pokhara via Gorakhpur, he added.
The Indian Embassy said that it is in touch with local authorities and is monitoring the situation. It also shared helpline numbers for Kathmandu and Pokhara.
Yeti Airlines, whose flight crashed earlier in the day, has been flying commercial aircraft for more than two decades now. It currently has a fleet of six ATR planes.
Nepal prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said the plane was flying from the capital, Kathmandu, to Pokhara in central Nepal, and urged security personnel and the general public to help with the rescue efforts, Associated Press reported.?
The last major air accident in Nepal happened on May 29 when all 22 people onboard, including four members of an Indian family, were killed as a Tara Air plane crashed in Nepal's mountainous Mustang district.
