A court in New York witnessed an unusual 'courtroom drama' when a judge officiated the wedding of a man she had just sentenced to ten years in jail. New York Judge Melina McGuinnigle sentenced Anthony Santiago to 10 years in prison on Friday for breaking into a New York home in 2022. The same judge then performed the wedding of Santiago and his girlfriend?Victoria.
The couple was declared husband and wife by the judge inside the court just moments before?the 33-year-old was sent?to jail, where he will spend the next ten years of his life.??

Santiago, a native of Ohio, was charged with burglary in the first degree for the June 2022 break-in of a North Syracuse residence. According to investigators, Santiago drove a vehicle to a home in North Syracuse to sell a car. While at the?home, he noticed a substantial amount of marijuana inside.
Santiago then discussed his findings with two friends, 18-year-old Malik Shabazz and 31-year-old Andres Arzola-Torrewho, who also lived in Cleveland. They decided to return about a month later to rob the home. On June 27, 2022, the three suspects conducted the robbery. They reportedly pistol-whipped an adult man and woman inside the?home, where four children were also residing. The suspects were accused of threatening the children but did not harm them.

Investigators also revealed that Santiago was a serial offender and had three previous convictions when he?was arrested?in 2022.?
In December 2022, a similar wedding?took place?in a Virginia prison, where a British woman married an American man?who was?serving a 20-year prison term.
