In a moment of relief, a family in the USA averted any substantial damage from a potentially disastrous fire after their Apple HomePod came to the rescue with a life-saving alert.
The footage of the incident, caused by the family's dog accidentally turning on the oven, was caught on camera and eventually shared by the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
In the clip, the family dog can be seen exploring the kitchen, subsequently standing upright on the countertop and unwittingly turning on the oven.
The burner, equipped with multiple boxes on it, immediately caught fire, spreading to items in close vicinity. The family, who were asleep at that moment, were alerted by a "high heat" notification from their Apple HomePod. The video further shows family members acting quickly to douse the blaze before reaching out to the fire department for assistance.
After their arrival, firefighters didn't detect any visible smoke or flames. They accessed the CCTV footage to find out the reason behind the fire.
In the Facebook post, the Colorado Springs Fire Department underlined the benefits of having working smoke alarms inside and outside each sleeping area and on every floor of the house.
Although the family was able to extinguish the fire in time, they were taken to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported, and the pet was unharmed.
¡°This is a good reminder to always have working smoke alarms inside and outside every sleeping area and on every floor of the home, ensure all combustibles are away from your stovetop/oven, and know two ways out of every room in your home in the event of a fire,¡± the department advised in their post.

Facebook user Lana commented on the post, stating, ¡°Should not put flammables on any cooktop gas or electrics. Pets trying to get stuff up there turning on ranges and starting fires is a common insurance claim unfortunately.¡±
BBC News also shared the footage on Instagram, where artist Nova Tugce Kizilet remarked, ¡°A child at home can do the same at home. So an adult¡¯s job is to cut off the gas when they are not using the stove! If you don't turn off the gas valve of the stove, with a lighter from the automatic pull, a child can run it and burn the house down. It¡¯s not about burning the pet. The topic should be about evaluating the behaviour of the adults who neglect to take precautions even when there are children at home."

Another user humorously added, ¡°Lesson learned: don't ask your dog to prepare breakfast for you.¡±
