A man arrested in the United States for the murder of four university students was photographed during a refuelling stop at an airport in Illinois.
According to TMZ, the entire Willard Airport in Champaign was evacuated as the accused, Bryan Kohberger, had to urinate. The photos of the murder accused appeared on social media, showing him bound in shackles and being led from a private plane to the airport. The plane, meanwhile, was getting refuelled, the outlet further said.
At least three armed officers accompanied criminology PhD student Kohberger, who was seen wearing a red jumpsuit, into the facility, which was reportedly completely evacuated so the suspected murderer could use the bathroom, New York Post reports. The outlet reported that employees were asked to leave the building during the lockdown, which lasted until Kohberger reboarded his flight.
The plane taking Kohberger back to Idaho to face murder charges was refuelled while the suspect was inside the empty building, eyewitnesses said.The jet is reportedly owned by the Pennsylvania State Police, whose officers are accompanying the 28-year-old on the roughly 4000 km trip to Moscow, Idaho.
Kohberger is being extradited to Idaho to appear in court facing charges over the November 13 murders of University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.
The brutal killings took place in mid-November in the town of Moscow. According to detectives, the four students were likely to have been asleep when they were stabbed multiple times.Autopsies revealed some of them had defensive wounds, indicating they tried to protect themselves as their killer struck.
Moscow police chief James Fry said after a massive manhunt and thousands of tips, 28-year-old Bryan Christopher Kohberger was arrested.Fry said Kohberger is a graduate student at Washington State University, whose campus is a short distance from Moscow. An archive search of the university's website reveals Kohberger to have been a PhD candidate in the criminal justice and criminology department.
