The upcoming US Presidential Election is turning out to be the most unconventional one in history. Unlike previous US Presidential Elections, where candidates faced off against each other in TV debates, in 2024, the campaign is going full steam on social media, particularly on TikTok.
This is despite the fact that, in the US, politicians across party lines have waged a war against the Chinese social media platform and tried to ban it, calling it a national security threat.

Republican candidate Donald Trump, who was one of the first US leaders to openly declare war on TikTok, now seems to have turned into a fan of the short video platform.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Trump is seen dancing with online streamer Adin Ross.
"You know, I will tell you about TikTok. Trump is going to keep TikTok going. Biden and Harris, they have no idea what it means," Trump is heard saying in the video.

Trump further stated that if elected, he will save TikTok, while 'they want to destroy it.'
"And all it's going to do is be good for China either way, so we are going to keep, we are going to save TikTok. They want to destroy TikTok. So all of the people on TikTok, vote for Trump," he said.

This appears to be directly targeted against incumbent US President Joe Biden, who in April this year signed a law that would ban TikTok unless it is sold within a year.
The law stipulates that ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, must sell its stake within 12 months under the threat of being shut down.
