The US Presidential elections, scheduled for November, are turning out to be some of the most crucial and dramatic in recent history. Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump, who had taken an early lead in opinion polls, is now trailing his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris.
This has left the Republican camp, including Trump himself, worried, and many say the signs are clear. Sarah Matthews, a former spokesperson for Trump, is among those who feel that the reality TV host-turned-politician has become desperate. According to her, Trump is becoming desperate as the polls start tilting in favor of his opponent.
¡°I think that he feels this election slipping away from him, and that¡¯s where you¡¯re beginning to see him spiral and cling to these conspiracy theories, as you noted with the AI-generated crowds, which obviously can be easily disproven,¡± Matthews told MSNBC in an interview.
Matthews, who had served as the deputy press secretary for President Trump while he was in office, had testified against him in the Capitol Hill violence trial.
According to her, Trump's recent attacks on Harris, questioning her racial identity, and targeting the Republican governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, are indications that he is feeling threatened.
"That is what he does when he feels like he¡¯s under attack: he uses these kinds of lines of defense that don¡¯t make much sense for campaigning,¡± she said.

Matthews is not the only former Trump ally who feels that the 78-year-old is becoming increasingly desperate. George Conway, a conservative lawyer and ex-husband of Kellyanne Conway, former Senior Counselor to President Trump, also echoed a similar opinion.
Conway claimed that the former president was behaving like Adolf Hitler in his final days.
¡°[Trump] is, as I¡¯ve been saying, a narcissistic sociopath, a pathological narcissist and a sociopath as defined by the American Psychiatric Association. These are, historians will tell you, the traits of authoritarian dictators throughout history,¡± he said.
Even Kellyanne Conway came out in criticism of Trump and suggested that the former President needs to stop getting caught up with insults against Harris.
"The winning formula for President Trump is very plain to see. It's fewer insults, more insights, and that policy contrast," she said.
