National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Matthew Dominick, the commander of the SpaceX Crew-8 mission has shared a new timelapse of photos of Earth that were taken just before sunrise.
The timelapse was taken from the International Space Station while it was passing over Europe. The timelapse showed the skies over Earth being lit up by an approaching sunrise. NASA said the footage is of the "orbital sunrise" - which is when an astronaut sees the sun rise from space.
"Astronaut Matthew Dominick captured this time-lapse from the Space Station as the orbiting laboratory passed over Europe," NASA wrote on X while posting the video.
The timelapse was taken from inside the Cupola module of ISS, with the robotic Canadarm2 seen in the foreground of the video.
It showed glowing reds and greens from the?aurora?intensifying behind the continent as the sun prepares to rise.
"Reds and greens from the aurora as well as city lights reflect off the service module solar arrays with the Milky Way core behind the space station. The solar arrays and service module are bathed in a light horizon blue from a sun about to rise behind the camera," Dominick said in a social media post.
Dominick, a US Navy test pilot and NASA astronaut was launched to the ISS in early March aboard the SpaceX Crew-8 mission, and was expected to spend around six months in space.
Since his arrival at the ISS, Dominick has been regularly posting on social media about his life as an astronaut in space and also some spectacular visuals that can only be viewed from there.
