It was a proud moment for PV Sindhu as she held India's flag while leading the contingent during the march of nations at the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.
It was a great display of light and colour that saw the Games declared officially open at the Carrara Stadium in Australia.
This is 21st edition of the CWG. It started with the passing of the baton to Australia. Damien Rider - an ultra marathon runner held it. There was a good musical performance by Ricki-Lee Coulter and then the parade began.
Scotland led the way, but we were all waiting for India. And then it happened! Our 225-stropng contingent led by PV Sindhu took centrestage. it was a proud moment for Sindhu as she carried the flag.
After the parade Katie Noonan sang 'You¡¯re Welcome Here' with the Gold Coast Choir for company. What followed was the smoking ceremony, which is an ancient ritual still practiced by indigenous Australians. It involves burning native plants which produces smoke and bathing in it results in cleansing. Then the athletes took the oath to demonstrate the true spirit of sportsmanship.
