World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has added another mid-card title to its women's division. WWE on Monday announced the introduction of a womenĄŻs Intercontinental Championship for the RAW brand.
RAW General Manager Adam Pearce introduced the brand-new belt on the latest episode of Monday Night RAW in Glendale, Arizona.
"Say hello to the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship," WWE said in a social media post announcing the new belt.
This is the second mid-card championship WWE has unveiled for its women's division this month. Earlier this month, WWE announced the launch of a Women's United States Championship for SmackDown.
The two brand-new belts have not been awarded to anyone, and both RAW and SmackDown will hold separate tournaments featuring top stars to crown the first Women's United States and Intercontinental Champions.
The tournament to determine the first-ever Women's Intercontinental Champion will start next week on RAW. Meanwhile, on SmackDown, Bayley defeated B-Fab and Candice LeRae to advance to the semi-finals to crown the first-ever Women's United States Champion. Chelsea Green, who defeated Blair Davenport and Bianca Belair, has also qualified for the semi-finals, while Tiffany Stratton, Naomi, Elektra Lopez, Piper Niven, Michin, and Jade Cargill will have their chances to advance in the tournament this week.
With this, the number of WWE championships in the women's division has gone up to 11. These are the WWE Women's Championship, Women's World Championship, Women's Tag Team Championship, WWE Women's Speed Championship, WWE Women's Crown Jewel Championship, NXT Women's Championship, NXT UK Women's Championship, NXT Women's North American Championship, and NXT Women's Tag Team Championship.
