KS Bharat was called in as Rishabh Pant's cover. Pant is out of the 2nd ODI vs Australia as a result of a concussion.
The 26-year-old has not played international cricket and has 74 first-class games under his belt having scored 4143 runs.
"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named KS Bharat as the back-up wicketkeeper for the 2nd ODI in Rajkot against Australia," BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.
"With Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan being a part of the India A side in New Zealand, the selection committee decided to name KS Bharat as back-up wicketkeeper," he added.
The decision was reached when Pant headed to Bengaluru for rehabilitation at the NCA
He was on the helmet in the first ODI which meant he could not take part in the next catch.
"His recovery is being monitored and a call on his availability for the final ODI in Bengaluru will be taken accordingly," the BCCI said.
Things are going from bad to worse for Pant as he has been sidelined. With so much competition for the gloves, he needs to be fit and get his act together as soon as possible.?
