It was the 1986 FIFA World Cup quarter-final between Argentina and England, and a man named Diego Maradona was about to carve his place in the history books. After 51 minutes, Maradona went up against goalkeeper Peter Chilton. As both reached for the ball in the air, Maradona headed it over the towering Englishman to find the back of the net.

Oh wait, did I say headed it? No, he handed it over the keeper, because that is what he did - used his hand. However, only Chilton noticed it and his appeal was denied by the referee.
The famous goal was dubbed the 'Hand of God' for no one noticed it. Television replays confirmed it and many years later Maradona himself admitted it but said that he had no regrets.

Four minutes later he scored the 'Goal of the Century' when he dribble past five England players, Beardsley, Reid, Butcher, Fenwick, Butcher (again), and finally goalkeeper Peter Shilton to score.
But it is the first goal, the Hand of God, which catapaulted him to stardom. He would eventually lead them to the title, and the rest is history.
