A 25-year-old delivery person from Zomato was beaten up by hotel staff for being 20 minutes late to pick up?a tea parcel in Bellandur.
Jagadeesh had a hair-line crack in his spine. He was beaten with potato crates. He is the only earning member of his family. His main worry is now that he may be bed-ridden for months since the doctor has advised him not to ride two-wheelers for some time.
Jagadeesh works as a food delivery man and earns somewhere between Rs 1,000 and 1,700 a day. He had purchased a new bike with a good mileage for his job recently.
On Sunday, around 9.20 am, Jagadeesh got an order on his phone from Zomato that he had to pick up tea parcel from The Flying Cup Restaurant at Bellanduru Gate, on Sarjapura Road and deliver it to a customer.
¡°As per the company¡¯s guidelines, we have 45 minutes to collect and deliver the food package,¡± said Jagadeesh. He said he took a 20-minute stop for breakfast. The hotel staff reprimanded Jagadeesh for coming late and complained that the tea had become cold. ¡°The restaurant staff asked me to wait for another 20 minutes, but I saw that the disposable tea flask was kept on the side,¡± Jagadeesh told BM. He then told the restaurant staff that it was time for him to leave and went to take the flask, when around three of them beat him up black and blue. They used potato crates to beat him on his back and he fell down. Jagadeesh could not get back up and he called his friend.
His friend rushed to the restaurant and took him in an auto-rickshaw to a hospital.
