India's Airtel is breaking the glass ceiling again! In a press release dated September 2, Airtel announced that it had conducted India's first cloud gaming trials on a 5G network.?
Bharti Airtel is India's second-largest network provider with over 343.27 million subscribers, according to Statista numbers from July 2021. With cloud gaming capabilities, Airtel has become India's only network service provider to test cloud gaming capabilities successfully as part of ongoing 5G trials under the direction of the Indian government's Department of Telecom.?
To assess the performance of 5G cloud gaming, Airtel inducted two famous gamers -- Mortal and 8bit Mamba in the gaming community. Both of them claimed that the mobile gaming experience reflected the speed and accuracy of console gaming on 5G with little to no latency, which dictates how quickly the network responds to user requests.?
During the demo, both Mamba and Mortal were connected 3500 MHz high capacity spectrum band, offering speeds up to 1 Gbps and latency in the range of 10 milliseconds - lightning fast if you ask us!?

Just like all-things-cloud, cloud gaming refers to a playing and streaming experience in real time. When you play games in the traditional format, they're accessed through CDs or via digital installations on your console, phone, or PC.?
On the cloud, the game is essentially streamed onto your device, saving your storage but sucking in your data.With 5G cloud gaming, Airtel hopes to bring the console experience to smartphones.
In a press conference on September 2, Airtel's Chief Technology Officer Randeep Sekhon claimed that specialised devices with cloud gaming capability in high speeds would be required to play these games, designed keeping professional players in mind.?

Sekhon also suggested that Airtel's 5G cloud gaming may be used by players within the industry to offer a cheap and fast cloud gaming experience to users once 5G is rolled out effectively pan-India.?
"I expect gaming phones to be available by our company [Airtel] or phone manufacturers", Sekhon said in the press conference implying that Airtel is just getting started.
Currently, 5G is in its testing phase in India. A report by a parliamentary panel on 5G claimed that the country is still not ready to roll out 5G services due to inadequate infrastructure.?
Airtel was the first telecom company to show off 5G services in India earlier this year in the city of Hyderabad. For its 5G trials, Airtel is collaborating with Ericsson and Nokia.?

According to Statista, India's gaming industry is on a path to growth, with the market expected to reach $2.4 billion value covering 510 million online gamers by 2022.?
