Short-form video clips have taken over all social media platforms. What started on TikTok quickly spread to Instagram (Reels) and on YouTube (Shorts). However, not everyone is a fan of these quick vertical videos.
Have you been wondering how to disable YouTube Shorts on your smartphone? Worry not, keep reading this guide to disable Shorts on YouTube. Even though Google is mandating Shorts on its mobile app and there is no iron-clad way to remove Shorts from your suggestions or home page, these tweaks could help you get rid of some Shorts content on YouTube.
Open a web browser of your choice on your Android or iOS device and visit the YouTube website. By default, the browser will open the mobile website. When you click on the three dot menu in the address bar, you should see the option to view the "Desktop Site." This way, you can view the desktop version.

Now, go down on the homepage until you see the "Shorts" section. Simply click on the "X" or the "Not interested" button on the top right of the Shorts panel to remove Shorts recommendations.
If you want to remove Shorts temporarily from your Android or iOS app, you can do so by marking Shorts as "Not interested."
After playing a video of your choice, scroll down to recommendations until the YouTube Shorts section appears. Here, click the three-dot menu at the top right of a Shorts video. Now, select the "Not interested" option. Do this until there are no Shorts recommendations left. Mind you, this isn't a permanent solution.

You can uninstall updates to the YouTube app on some Android devices and revert to an older version of the app. This will work only if the YouTube app version on your Android is older than version 14.13.54.
Open the Play Store app and find YouTube. On the three dot menu at the top-right corner of the screen, you should see three dots. Here, uncheck "Enable auto-update" option. Now, you can stay on the old YouTube for as long as Google permits.
