Airbnb Has Had Enough Of Party People: No Parties Allowed On Any Properties Now

Do you enjoy hosting parties at your rented Airbnb? Well, that era is now over! In 2020, Airbnb introduced a temporary ban on house parties to keep up with Covid-19 guidelines on social distancing.

Now, Airbnb has made the ban permanent. Airbnb has decided parties aren't in the best interests of properties and property owners. "Over time, the party ban became much more than a public health measure. It developed into a bedrock community policy to support our Hosts and their neighbors," Airbnb wrote in a blog post.

The new ban puts an end to "all disruptive parties and events," especially those that intend to amass a wide reach on social media. In 2021, Airbnb suspended the accounts of 6,600 guests for violating the no-party rule.?

"We believe there is a direct correlation between our implementation of the policy in August 2020 and a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports," Airbnb added.

Sober parties allowed, kind of!

Besides banning parties, Airbnb is now lifting the 16-person occupancy limit on its properties. While this may not be necessary for most rentals, some are large enough to fit more than 16 people. Airbnb explained how such properties are used for "multi-generational family trips and larger groups."

There are good reasons for Airbnb to ban parties on its properties, especially the large ones. In 2019, Airbnb "party houses" were banned after five people died during a Halloween event at an Airbnb property in California, USA. "The policy will continue to include serious consequences for guests who attempt to violate these rules, varying from account suspension to full removal from the platform," Airbnb wrote.

While Airbnb depends on hosts and neighbours to see if the rules are being broken, in cases where remote properties are put on rent, it might be a little difficult to keep tabs on who parties where and when.
