Amazon has the second-largest market cap in the entire world, sitting at about $941 billion. However, it has just added another feather to its illustrious cap.
According to a recent study, the ecommerce giant has become the?most valuable brand in the world, ahead of Apple and Google.
In a report by research agency Kantar released earlier this month, Amazon's brand is now worth about $315.5 billion. That's 52 percent higher than it was a year ago, taking it well past Apple's brand value of $309.5 billion and Google's $309 billion.
The latter two tech giants have been battling over the throne for over the past decade now, making this the first time Amazon has cracked the top spot. According to the report, that steep climb is thanks in part to "smart acquisitions" on the part of Jeff Bezos, giving them new revenue streams. They've also offered a much wider variety of products than competitors, meaning customer draw is great, and they've backed it up with "excellent customer service"
"Amazon's phenomenal brand value growth of almost $108 billion in the past year demonstrates how brands are now less anchored to individual categories and regions," Doreen Wang, Kantar's global head of BrandZ, told CNBC.
Conversely though Microsoft has the highest market cap in the world, around $1 trillion, it only has a brand value of about $251.2 billion, putting it in fourth place. Apple and Google make up the second and third spots on that list, with Facebook somehow hanging on down in 6th place.
