Facebook has, for the very first time ever, shed some light on how prevalent bullying and harassment is on its platform.?

Reported first by Reuters, Facebook has seen bullying and harassment content between 14 to 15 times every 10,000 views on the site in the third quarter of 2021.
On Instagram, the content moderation report revealed that bullying and harassment content was seen between five to six times per 10,000 views of content.
Facebook¡¯s bullying and harassment numbers only looked at instances where the company didn't need additional info such as a report from a user to determine if the content broke any rules.?

Facebook has removed 9.2 million pieces of content for breaking its bullying and harassment rules and it found 59.4 percent of it proactively.?
¡°Bullying and harassment is a unique challenge and one of the most complex issues to address because context is critical,¡± revealed Facebook¡¯s global head of safety, Antigone Davis and product management director, Amit Bhattacharyya in a blog post.

The social media giant has been under scrutiny for a while for the way it handles abuses on its services. However, all of this came into the limelight when whistleblower Frances Haugen leaked internal documents of the company¡¯s functioning and how its products, especially Instagram, affects the mental health of teens.?
Haugen highlighted via her documents that the company prioritised profits over user safety. Facebook, however, disputed stating that the aforementioned documents paint a ¡®false picture¡¯.
