The metaverse is coming with full force and Facebook is putting itself at the helm of metaverse adoption. To reflect its metaverse readiness, Facebook is all set to change its name in the near future.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is expected to announce the name change at Facebook's annual "Connect" conference on October 28, The Verge reported.
Even then, it's entirely possible that tech giant Facebook may announce the name change before that. Facebook is trying to recover from all the scandal surrounding its policy and approach to tackling hate speech and misinformation.
Now, it seems that Facebook is positioning itself at the centre of metaverse adoption, wherein the line between the physical and the virtual world would be blurred with assistance from augmented reality (AR) paraphernalia like glasses or even our current phone screens, for starters.
Facebook wants no longer to be associated with just current models of social media and is likely to now project Facebook and other social media platforms like Instagram and Whatsapp as few of many projects undertaken by the company.

So far, Facebook hasn't acknowledged the same publicly but the name change is coming soon. The company had been preparing for this a while. With 10,000 employees dedicated to the creation of Facebook's metaverse, Facebook could kickstart the adoption of social media's future.
Earlier, Zuckerberg had shown interest in turning Facebook into a metaverse company from a social media giant.
Currently, Facebook is facing a lot of heat after whistleblowers alleged misconduct from the company in terms of dealing with children, with fake news, and hate speech on its platforms. Former employee Frances Haugen revealed the internal workings of the company to US Congress, urging them to do something before it's too late.

Tech giants are known to rebrand themselves in order to improve company perception as well to keep its new goals in sync with how the company appears. In 2015, Google became part of the "Alphabet" umbrella. With this move, Google set out to make a similar statement, that it was no longer just a search engine company.
It's still unclear what the new name of Facebook would be. The Verge claims that it could run along the lines of "Horizon". Regardless, we'll find out soon.
