Jellinek commissioned Daimler and Maybach to design a high-performance engine for racing. He had a personal stake in the project, aiming to compete in the prestigious race held in Nice, France.
Daimler and Maybach successfully met Jellinek¡¯s requirements, producing a powerful vehicle that helped Jellinek win the race. However, Jellinek had one condition: the car needed to be named after his daughter, Mercedes.
