A new game called Valheim is taking the industry by storm and is beating the popularity of games like PUBG, Counter Strike and others right from the start.?
Developed by Swedish game developer firm Iron Gate Studio, the survival game Valheim is becoming the next prodigy of Steam video game service by Valve.
Retailing for $20, Valheim is garnering sales numbers that have not been seen in any of the games. Having launched at the start of this month, Valheim sold 1 million copies within eight days of its listing on Steam Early Access. In the next five days, it had crossed 2 million sales. This means that within half a month of its launch, the new survival game has already put all the big game titles to shame.
The company noted the achievement in a recent post. It wrote, ¡°In just 13 days Valheim has been purchased by over two million Vikings, and this weekend we reached a new peak concurrent player milestone of 360,000!¡±
These are not the only accomplishments that the game has managed to rake since its launch. As highlighted in a report by The Verge, Valheim has even become the second-most played game on all of Steam at one point. Beating every other game in this regard, the game lagged just behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Even at the time of writing, the game sits at the fourth position on the charts.
In addition to the concurrent players, Valheim has quickly made its way to the top 10 games with most concurrent players at one point. In doing so, the game knocked GTA V off the reputed list of Steam games.
The report also mentions that the game topped the Steam Top Sellers list during Valve¡¯s Steam Lunar New Year sale. Note that the game did not have any discount on its during this sale.?
The intriguing part of Valheim¡¯s success is the fact that the game is not an action packed title like the previous hits from Steam including PUBG and Counter Strike. Instead, Valheim is a slow-paced survival game based on a vikings theme that lets players roam an open world and survive on their own terms.
Players can conduct the life of their in-game character as per their terms- hunting or farming for food, dwelling in self-built structures, accumulating resources for the same, upgrading tools and so on. In addition, the game is said to have a vast map with several side missions that send players to scenic locations with soothing background music.
It is yet unclear if the game will maintain its popularity for long but considering the fact that it did not require any promotional activity on Twitch or discounts on Steam to garner the record numbers, chances are Valheim will prove to be an unprecedented hit by Steam.
