Gen Z isn't too fond of classic social media platforms like Facebook, and prefers?TikTok and Instagram over the same. Now, it appears that half of Gen Z is using TikTok and Instagram to search for stuff instead of Google.
Google's own data revealed that about 40% of Gen Z prefers searching on TikTok and Instagram over Google and Maps, TechCrunch first reported.
Let's not forget, TikTok short-form video format shook the social media landscape when it shot to fame. Its impact was so profound that other companies like Instagram followed suit with features like "Reels."
Google's Senior Vice President Prabhakar Raghavan told the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference that Google's internal studies suggest that "almost 40% of young people when they're looking for a place for lunch, they don't go to Google Maps or Search, they go to TikTok or Instagram."

But Google is not giving up yet! The company told Insider that it is planning to make its search engine appeal more to younger audience by adding a few features. For starters, users would be able to focus their camera over an area to get insights about numerous objects in that scene.

Even then, TikTok is growing at a pace that will soon outperform American social media giants like Facebook, Instagram, and eventually YouTube.?A previous analysis claimed that Facebook would lose 1.5 million teen users by 2025, all because of Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok - apps that remain more popular among younger generations.
