Our woes of poor network coverage could soon be a thing of the past, as the union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has approved the installation of over 25,000 network towers in the next 500 days, reveals an ANI report.
The announcement was made by Vaishnaw at the three-day long ¡®Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers¡¯ which started on October 1 and concluded on Monday. The entire endeavour will be supported by an investment of Rs 26,000 crores.
The conference involved detailed discussions on key priority areas of Digital India initiatives with the States and Union territories with Vaishnaw and Rajeev Chandrasekhar -- Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan and IT ministers of 12 states including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Mizoram, Sikkim and Puducherry.
Vaishnaw also lauded all states and UT for their speedy onboarding at PM Gati Shakti. Moreover, special assistance to states for capital expenditure worth Rs 2,000 crore has been supported.
He further encouraged states to form business-friendly policies to allow businesses to flourish in the states. He highlighted that commitments from all states and UTs as well as large and small states are crucial to bringing Digital India to greater heights.
While the timeline for the upgradation of the network is stipulated at 500 days, it¡¯ll be interesting to see if it does come to fruition during that time.
