We already know how Indians love smartphone, so much so that they¡¯re now the second-largest smartphone market in the world, after China and pushing the US to the third spot. And now a report by market research firm by the name of techARC reveals a surprising discovery.
According to the report, India has 502.2 million (around 50 crores) smartphone users as of December last year. This is a 15 percent increase from 2018. Now that¡¯s a lot of smartphones!
This basically means over 77 percent of the Indian population is now able to use the internet wirelessly using their smartphones. Definitely not so surprising when you realise the sheer amount cringy TikTok videos on the internet these days.
?As per the report, Samsung was on top with respect to the installed base at 34 percent, followed by Xiaomi at 20 percent, Vivo at 11 percent and Oppo at 9 percent.
However, the brands that had one of the highest additions to the market were Realme, OnePlus and Vivo at 49 percent, 41 percent and 44 percent respectively.
According to Faisal Kawoosa, founder and chief analyst of techARC "Factors like availability of good-quality affordable smartphones, expansion of online as well as offline channels, expansion of 4G/LTE networks by the operators are among the key reasons driving the smartphone user growth."
The report also touched on the topic of revenue generation of the large user-base of smartphone brands. Chinese brands are able to make $0.5 to $1.5 a month from its users either through advertising or some other service. Brands like Xiaomi and Realme are known to show ads in either lock screen or through its bloatware that ends up providing revenue for the competitively-priced devices.
Kawoosa further added, "Even if a brand is able to generate $1 revenue per user per month, with a base of 50 million users to be there for an average of 3 years, this means a revenue potential of $1.8 billion from services alone."
