Since quite some time Facebook-acquired Instagram has been trying to make stringent changes and improvements on its platform to make it safer for younger audiences And now it takes another step in this direction.
With a view to combat bullying on its platform, Instagram has now introduced a new feature that analyses a comment being sent by a follower. If it detects that the comment could in any way harm the sentiments of a user or seems like bullying, Instagram will warn the user to rethink or rephrase the sentence.
Instagram would cross verify the statement depending on previous reports along with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). Instagram will automatically identify such messages and generate a notification saying, ¡°this caption looks similar to others that have been reported¡±. The user can then either choose to edit the caption or share it anyway.
While it might seem like this one warning won¡¯t take any harsh step, it is made to make the bully realise how he/she is affecting the user and that he has an option to change his behaviour to be a better person.
The new feature would gradually be rolled out with app updates on Android as well as iOS.?
Last week, Instagram also made it compulsory for new users signing up to enter their age to filter content age-appropriately. Instagram also revealed that it will be taking the help of AI in captions to detect if the user has added his actual birth date or faking it.
It will use this age data to filter content about cosmetic surgeries and unrealistic weight-loss consumables that promise weight loss to promote body positivity.?
Instagram has also eliminated likes and follower count?in various regions across the world to prevent teens from getting depressed by not getting desired likes and stop the promotion of this unhealthy behaviour.
