The Indian government is embracing the revolutionary ChatGPT bot to increase awareness about its schemes. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is testing a WhatsApp bot powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT, The Indian Express reported.
Reportedly, a small team at MeitY called "Bhashini" is testing ways to deliver information to people through ChatGPT's ability to answer complex questions in a conversational style.
Five days after its release in November, ChatGPT crossed a million users. Since then, ChatGPT has become the fastest app to reach 100 million users, without even having a dedicated smartphone app.
But ChatGPT isn't perfect, it cannot respond to queries about events that took place after 2021. But Microsoft's Bing search engine is incorporating an advanced version of ChatGPT that can do the same. Google, too, has revealed its own version called Bard.

It appears that the WhatsApp chatbot for Indian farmers will answer their questions via voice notes in addition to texts, bringing relief to many people who are not comfortable typing on a smartphone.
Even then, the chatbot isn't coming immediately. Currently, ChatGPT largely relies on English language inputs, so including multiple local languages spoken in India could make the task longer.

To build a multi-lingual system, large data sets in various local languages will be required before the bot can help farmers. The government already has a WhatsApp chatbot called "MyGov" that provides resources to users, but it is not conversational and versatile like ChatGPT. When implemented, a ChatGPT-powered bot would provide responses based on prompts instead of a one-size-fits-all response.
