Elon Musk is the new owner of Twitter, buying the company for $44 billion and firing its top executives immediately. While there's a lot of talk about what holds for Twitter's future, the company's founder, Jack Dorsey, is already hinting at new avenues.
Dorsey founded Twitter in 2006, rocketing to become one of the world's most used social media platforms. Now, Jack Dorsey is about to launch a public test version of his new social media app.
The app is called Bluesky and already has a waiting list of users who wish to try out the app's beta version. While it's unclear what the app will look like, Dorsey has made a lot of information public.
One of the key facets of Bluesky is its "Authenticated Transfer Protocol" - a federated social network, as Bluesky Team calls it. According to the company's website, a federated network is a "way for servers to communicate with each other ¡ª like email. Instead of one site running the network, you can have many sites."

Earlier this month, Jack Dorsey explained in a Tweet that Bluesky will compete with any "company trying to own the underlying fundamentals for social media or the data of the people using it."
Meanwhile, Twitter has slipped into chaos after Elon Musk's takeover. Not only did he fire top 3 executives of the company, Musk hopes to relax rules about permanent bans and policing, much to many critics' dismay. Even then, Musk has promised that Twitter will not become a "free-for-all hellscape."

As for Bluesky, the company claims that 4 things make AT Protocol unique - account portability, algorithmic choice, interoperation, and performance. We'll know more about what this means when the network goes live.
