Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the 107th Indian Science Congress In Bengaluru where he spoke about a need for revolution to help simplify agricultural practices.?
The Indian Science Congress is a five-day-long event that connects the science fraternity in India and across the world to discuss the latest and greatest in scientific innovation across various allied disciplines.?
Other dignitaries invited to be a part of this congress included two Nobel Laureates in the field of Chemistry - German Physicist, Professor Stefan Hell, currently one of the directors of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in G?ttingen Germany, who received the award in 2014 and Professor Ada E. Yonath from Israel who received the award in 2009.
More than 16 countries are participating in this summit, who will present their papers and share their latest research across more than 14 disciplines. This year¡¯s focus remains on the development of science and technology in rural areas.
PM Modi urged young scientists at this congress to find better solutions for farmers or people living in the rural areas, stating, "Can we find farmer-centric solutions to the problems of stalk-burning? Can we re-design our brick-kilns for reduced emissions and greater energy efficiency?
He revealed his motto to inspire young scientists stating, "My motto for the young scientists in this country is -Innovate, Patent, Produce and Prosper. These four steps will lead our country towards faster development. If we innovate we will patent and that in turn will make our production smoother and when we take these products to the people of our country, I'm sure they will prosper.¡±
Prime Minister Modi also spoke about India¡¯s ranking on the Global Innovation Index at 52 and how it has improved over the years, "Our programmes have created more technology business incubators in the last five years than in the previous 50 years. I congratulate our scientists for this achievement,"
While ISC stands to be a convention that connects the people of science from the world, is this the place where one can get truly inspired from? With speakers in the past calling Albert Einstien's Theory of Relativity a 'Big Blunder',? Saying that Newton never understood gravity or that Dinosaurs were created by Lord Bramha and Ravan had aircraft long before Wright Brothers invented it -- instances like these only make us question the credibility of the panel and their capacity to inspire future generations of scientific thinkers.
