If passenger safety is a part of your buying decision, here's a handy list of safest cars in India on sale. Global NCAP, the car safety program that ranks cars on the basis of their safety, has released a list of Indian cars which it evaluated over the years. Since 2014 to present, a total of 38 vehicles have been tested by the agency and the new list now ranks them next to each other.
A striking takeaway from the list is that Indian auto majors Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra dominate the Top 10 spots. Mahindra¡¯s compact SUV - XUV300 has been ranked the safest car in India within this duration.?
The XUV300 received a 5-Star Global NCAP rating for adult occupant protection and a 4-Star rating for child occupant protection. The latter is a first of its kind achievement in India.?
Another of Mahindra¡¯s cars ranked among the top 10 is Mahindra Marazzo - positioned at number 7.
Right after the XUV300 are four Tata vehicles ranked highest in the list. Global NCAP commended Tata on its achievement and encouraged others to follow its example for safer cars.?
Among these, Tata Altroz is ranked at the top, with a perfect five star safety rating for adult occupants and a three star rating for child occupants.?
Following close at the third and fourth positions are subsequent models of Tata Nexon, which became India¡¯s first five-star safety rated car early last year when its crash test was conducted. None of the vehicles in the rest of the list offer 5-star safety ratings as per Global NCAP¡¯s standards.
Tied at fifth are Tata Tigor and Tata Tiago, both of which were offered a four-star safety rating for the adult occupants and a three-star safety rating for the child occupants. Zest, another Tata make, is ranked at 10th position in the list.
Sixth place in the top ten has been grabbed by the Volkswagen Polo with two air-bags. The specific model got a four-star safety rating for adult occupant protection and a three-star rating for child occupant.
Toyota Etios and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza have grabbed the eighth and ninth spot with four star safety for adults and two-star rating for the child occupants. Here is the rest of the list as released by Global NCAP -?
