Sony wants to fuse digital gaming with our physical world.?The makers of Playstation want to give gamers a chance to put real-life physical objects into video games using a 3D scanner.
Reported first by GameRant, the new VR technology would allow gamers to make any object interactive in the VR space.
Patent filings for a 3D scanner were seen by GameRant in the backdrop of CES 2022 where Sony revealed the technical specs of PS VR 2. The patent for Sony's 3D scanner were actually filed on June 23, 2021.

This might sound like a bummer but companies file hundreds of patents that do not materialise into large-scale products. We still can't say if Sony's hopes for us to use personal objects in the virtual world will come to fruition anytime soon. One thing is clear though - given the metaverse hype, Sony is not holding back.
According to GameRant's suspicions, the tech could be implemented in video games in more ways than one. It's unclear whether the 3D scanner would be used to complement the PS VR 2 or whether it'll be used for non-VR purposes in games.
Sony's not one to shy away from taking risks. The company's future-ready approach was revealed in a different patent wherein the company basically claimed that literally anything could be a game controller - yep, even a banana.
