Women, not only in India but all over the world, have proven that they are no different than a man when it comes to work and productivity. However, the tech industry is one place where one has seen a considerable divide between men and women workforce -- women always being lower in numbers.?
However, a recent study has revealed that In India, women now constitute 30 percent of the overall workforce in the field of tech -- seven percent more than 21 percent that was seen five years ago.?
The study was conducted by Intel and consulting firm Zinnov. The study also looked at the number of women with accordance to the hierarchy in an organisation. The study revealed that at a junior level, the number of women is relatively higher at 38 percent, but this drops considerably to 20 percent in case of midlevel position, and 11 percent at senior level positions.?
There are 48 percent women in the country, which definitely means that there is still a ton of room for improvement.?
As per Pari Natrajan, CEO of Zinnov, ¡°The commitment to change needs to move beyond an organisational setting and include an ecosystem-wide lens. Enabling science, technology, engineering and mathematics career options for young women, supporting women-led startups, and encouraging other women entrepreneurs are some of the more impactful initiatives that organisations need to actively look at,¡±
According to All India Council for Technical Education, for every two girls, there are five boys that enroll for professional courses. This brings down the number of women in the tech industry drastically.?
The study looked at 60 companies -- big and small -- and discovered that larger enterprises have highest women representation at 33 percent while medium-sized enterprises and small enterprises have 27 percent and 21 percent representation respectively.
