TikTok can easily be deemed as the fastest growing social media platform for the last year. The exponential increase in the number of TikTok users has especially been observed in countries with a large proportion of youth like India.
Knowing that most of its user base is formed by the younger generation, TikTok has now decided to come up with ways to let the parents of these young users have more control over their activities on the app.
The new-formed check includes restricting the time spent on the app through a ¡®Family Safety Mode¡¯. With the feature, parents will be able to control the time that their young ones spend on the app, while also monitoring the content that they are pushing out.
The confirmation of the new feature comes through a TikTok blog post by Cormac Keenan, Head of Trust and Safety, EMEA at TikTok. Keenan wrote "As part of our commitment to safety, the wellbeing of our users is incredibly important to us. We want people to have fun on TikTok, but it's also important for our community to look after their wellbeing, which means having a healthy relationship with online apps and services."
In addition to limiting the time spent, the new features will also allow parents to limit direct messages through the app as well as put on a restrict mode that will hide sensitive content from the targeted user¡¯s account.
Keenan further added, "We will keep introducing ways to keep our community safe so they can stay focused on what matters to them ¨C creating, sharing, and enjoying the creativity of TikTok's community."
Note that such controls were already present on the TikTok app. The difference, however, lied with who had these controls. While the features were earlier limited to the users to use, the new policy by the app will let the parents or guardians use these controls over their young ones.
