Last month, we saw WhatsApp rolling out the multi-device feature for some users, allowing them to link their chats to WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop app using their phone.?

And now, according to a report by trusty WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is taking? the multi-device feature to a whole new level by allowing users to link WhatsApp for iPad to be linked to the main device (smartphone).
As of now, the multi-device feature only allows users to connect one phone with four devices -- these four devices can be either using WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop or even Facebook¡¯s Portal devices. No phones or tablets have been added to this mix (unless you connect using WhatsApp Web via desktop browser mode).?
WABetaInfo shared a screenshot that looks like an iOS loading screen where it¡¯s showing ¡®Downloading Recent Messages¡¯. If you¡¯re someone who uses WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop using the multi-device beta, you¡¯d know that it also shows the same text on the screen, before populating the chats and conversations.?

Every time a new device is linked, chat history is synced. The process is known to be end-to-end encrypted so WhatsApp won¡¯t really see the chats and messages that the users send to each other.?
We still don¡¯t know if this multi-device feature will only be limited to desktops and tablets or if it will also be active on smartphones. Moreover, this feature was spotted in one of the early builds of WhatsApp so we also don¡¯t have a clear idea when we¡¯d get a chance to try it out.
