Artificial agents are coming, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In an investors call on Wednesday after Meta released company data for the first quarter, Zuckerberg said that the company is working on ways to "introduce AI agents to billions of people in ways that will be useful and meaningful."
While reminding stakeholders that Meta intends to compete with Google and Microsoft in the world of artificial intelligence, Zuckerberg said that Meta will add AI technology into "every single one of our products," being useful for everyone from "regular people to creators to businesses."
At the same time, Zuckerberg said that "tens of millions of AI agents" working for companies could improve customer support interactions, and have "way more businesses that can afford to have people engaging in chat."

Referring to concerns about the state of Meta's metaverse ambitions, Zuckerberg said that their company is still intent on developing the metaverse, even though recent changes in the industry signal a shift to artificial intelligence.
Just a few months ago, Zuckerberg had claimed that Meta was bringing its AI teams together to "turbocharge" its work in that domain. At the same time, Meta has undertaken mass firings - letting go of more than 20,000 people in the recent times, all part of Zuckerberg's "year of efficiency" goals for 2023.
