But a new study has highlighted that even two beers a day can cause brain damage similar to 10 years of ageing.?
The study looked at alcohol consumption and the volumes of grey and white matter in the brain, to better understand how a moderate amount of beer can lead to damage worth years.?
It analysed high-quality MRI scans of over 36,-000 individuals from the UK¡¯s Biobank. It also followed up on a study that focussed on heavy drinkers. Researchers found that drinking a moderate amount of alcohol can often cause volumes of white and grey matter to shrink in the brain.
It is important to note that the study doesn¡¯t really look at a lot of other variables but it does highlight the fact that we know very little about the effects of alcohol on the human brain.
What was surprising is that the results weren¡¯t very different even after eliminating the heavy drinkers from the data, indicating that it doesn¡¯t matter how much you consume, the damage will be done.?

The study observed average consumption, however, researchers want to look into the frequency and different quantities and their impact on brain health.?
Gideon Nave, one of the authors of the study explained, ¡°This study looked at average consumption, but we¡¯re curious whether drinking one beer a day is better than drinking none during the week and then seven on the weekend.¡±?
