The United States has achieved an important milestone in the battle against Covid-19 as the country has vaccinated more than one million Americans against the novel disease early on.?
The achievement was confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently.
Announcing the milestone, CDC Director Robert Redfield said, "The United States achieved an early but important milestone today - jurisdictions have now reported that more than 1 million people have received their?first dose of COVID-19 vaccine?since administration began ten days ago," Redfield said on Wednesday, as quoted in a report by?ANI.
A look at the CDC?Covid Data Tracker?confirms the high number of Americans vaccinated against the disease. In addition to a million doses administered, the tracker reveals that the?number of doses distributed?since December 13, 2020 is nearing 10 million in the US.
The tracker explains that the total doses distributed are ¡°cumulative counts of COVID-19 vaccine doses recorded as shipped in the CDC¡¯s Vaccine Tracking System (VTrckS).¡± These doses include both Moderna and Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine candidates.
As per the tracker, the CDC expects this ¡°large difference¡± between the number of doses distributed and the number of doses administered. This is due to factors including ¡°delays in reporting of administered doses, management of available vaccine stocks by jurisdictions, and pending launch of vaccination through the federal Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program.¡±
While the vaccination program moves forward, Redfield also urged Americans to "embrace proven health strategies" which include wearing face masks, keeping social distance and hygiene until the vaccine becomes available to everyone.
