With COVID-19 putting all of us in lockdown, most of us have managed to put on considerable weight. While some are ignorant about fitness, many have switched to home workouts, to burn some calories during this pandemic, while also being careful about what they consume.?
However if you¡¯re a wine drinker, there might be some good news for you.?
A new study has revealed that people who often choose wine over soda drinks like Coke are actually less likely to be overweight. The study was conducted in the UK where they analysed what 9,8,675 British households purchased as their favourite drink from data collected back in 2016.
They were able to find seven kinds of households that they placed in separate groups depending on the kind of drinks they bought regularly. This included sugar-sweetened drinks, diet beverages, milk-based drinks, beers, ciders, wine and water. There was another group called ¡®diverse group¡¯ that bought limited quantities of the aforementioned drinks.
Most people belonged to the diverse group, amounting to 30 percent, whereas 18 percent of people mostly bought wine and another 18 percent only bought sugary drinks. 16 percent stuck to diet drinks whereas beer and cider made up 7 percent, fruit and milk-based drinks remained 6 percent and water remained 4 percent.?
Researchers discovered that the highest proportion of overweight people belonged to households that bought mainly sugary drinks (which were also the households that weren¡¯t very well off).
Researchers found that out of the households that bought sugary drinks as well as diet drinks, 66.8 percent and 72.5 percent respectively were obese or overweight. Researchers also discovered that people who normally preferred drinking sugary drinks or diet drinks were also more likely to buy other unhealthy food items like biscuits, chocolates and candies.?
So in case you¡¯re trying to lose weight, it's better to keep sugary sodas on hold to prevent consumption of more calories.?
