Adding glory to its breathtaking landscapes, Ladakh is all set to make a huge mark in the world of sustainable energy.
According to a TOI report, the mega-project will not just provide electricity for the region, but will also focus on preserving glaciers and reduce 12,750 tonnes of carbon emissions every year.?
The project is also set to employ people who find it difficult to get a job. SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India)- under the renewable lenergy ministry - is promoting the projects in J&K on?scale matching the grandeur of their locations - 5,000 MW for the Ladakh unit and 2,500 MW for Kargil, states the report.?
The Ladakh project will be located at Hanle-Khaldo in Nyoma, Power from the Ladakh project will flow to Kaithal in Haryana for which a900-km line will be laid mostly along the Leh-Manali road.?
Another positive thing related to the project is that Leh and Kargil administration have nominated 25,000 and 12,500 acres of non-grazing land respectively on 'remuneration' prices for hill council, which is about 1200 per year with annual growth of 3% It will also earn a rent of Rs. Per hectare
One of the biggest challenges?facing the builders of this mega project was the difficult?terrain and hears weather?conditions. But now, identification of the location has solved a lot of problems.?
The setting up of the power plant is a promising future for the locals; many can take up jobs such as cleaning solar?panels and maintaining?transformers.
