Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg arrived in New York harbour after a two-week long voyage across the Atlantic ocean.?
According to reports, Greta and her crew travelled from Plymouth in the United Kingdom on a zero-emissions racing yacht across the ocean.
Instead of taking a flight to New York, Greta chose this mode of transport to spread the word on sustainability.?
The young activist will be attending several events in the city next month, including the U.N. General Assembly, U.N. Youth Summit on Climate and the Climate Action Summit.
The United Nations welcomed Thunberg with a flotilla of 17 sailboats ¡ª each branded with an icon from its Sustainable Development Goals, reports?CBS news.
According to USA Today, on reaching New York, crew member Boris Hermann said they had been at sea for 13 days and 8 hours.?
While at sea, Thunberg who was able to get some network, heard about the Amazon fires which left her absolutely perplexed.?
She tweeted saying, 'Even out here in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean I hear about the record amount of devastating fires in the Amazon. My thoughts are with those affected. Our war against nature must end.'
Last August, she staged a strike alone outside the Swedish parliament, and soon, students around the world began walking out of school and starting a worldwide campaign on climate change called Fridays for Future.?
