I am standing in the middle of the month, where I have spent nearly 14 days without plastic and I have been documenting my journey, but I have to tell you that it only gets tougher. I am sure you know this since I have already mentioned in all of my posts.?
The most difficult aspect of this fight is to put your hands on which aspect of plastic are you most addicted to. A normal person who lives at his house carries his own boxes and doesn't go out on a regular basis uses less plastic as opposed to those who travel, are frequent at street shops and buys a lot of from local.?
Now that I am making this conscious change, I know that with certain changes, one can eradicate the use to a very big level. I have begun carrying my own tote bag for vegetables and so I just don't take plastic bags anymore.?
"It rather amuses me that society is so dismayed by the fact there is so much plastic in the ocean. We have since the 1950s been extolling the virtue of throw-away plastic because it saves 'time'. Where did we think it was all going to go?", said Dr Katherine Richardson, a professor in Biological Oceanography at the University of Copenhagen.
But in today's I am just going to share if this fight is worth it or not. Well, to be honest, I along with a couple of you will not really make a difference. There are millions of people using plastic and our efforts will surely go unmissed. But this is a revolution and only leads to a favourable result when all of us do it.?
Now that I have made my home plastic free and am working with some set of rules. I can say that my house produces less plastic waste as opposed to what it used to a month ago. It is not only my effort but the effort everyone at home, vendors I buy from and everyone else.?
I recently tweeted to Dominos India and asked them if they can do away with the tiny plastic saves that come with the pizza. Now that's something that will revolutionize the pizza distribution not only in India but at a larger level everywhere. Another coffee brand, Blue Tokai said that they are soon going to switch to lids made from cornstarch instead of plastic, which again is a move that will transform the way of life for not just one person, but many.?
I think, more than individuals, it's the organizations who need to take this heads on and be responsible. At my workplace, we have ditched the plastic cups completely and are using ceramic cups for re-use. This is like as many as 1,000 people ditching cups on a daily basis in this building and we have offices across the country.?
In the fight against plastic, it is the holistic approach that we need. Cleaning just one beach in Mumbai is good, but there isn't just one. We need to clean them all.?
