A pup born with six legs, four testicles, two colons and an extra penis got a second chance at life after a successful surgery. But experts feared Raga wasn't going to survive because in such cases dogs rarely do.
The German Shephard has moved past that stage and now has a loving family and loving home. He was first brought to VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center in Fishers, Indiana last fall. Vets were baffled by the fact that it had two legs that were partly joined, two colons, an extra bladder, an extra pelvis, and an extra set of genitals.
However, it was instantly recognised that the puppy's body had problems functioning, as the faecal matter was being sent to his second penis, causing him to need heavy duty antibiotics.
Still, Raga behaved and did everything like other puppies. He played and jumped around.?
The hospital's technician supervisor, Gina Elliot, agreed to foster the unusual pup, expecting it to be a few nights at most. But when Raga exceeded his life expectancy, surgeons tried to find a way to make him live more.?
Veterinarian Dr. Jae Tobias and surgeon Dr. Nicolas Vecchio performed their first operation on Raga to remove his additional limbs and pelvis back in December. This was a success. In February, the other additional parts were taken off.?
Now that Raga has survived, he will have a third surgery to get the extra penis off.?
Surviving all odds.?
