Sometimes something as simple as a sunrise can be hard to get. Life on the southernmost continent of the world is as hard as it gets. The region experiences long periods of darkness and endless days with sunlight pouring in around the clock. Living at the south pole is an adventure like no other.
An old video of a southern inhabitant showing the?first sunrise on the continent after six months of continuous darkness has captivated the Internet. The video starts from the interior of a building and opens up to the vast lands of the region, showing the faint, bright light peaking through the horizon. The video also specifies that at the time of being filmed, the temperature in the area was close to -72 degrees Celcius. The old video has recently caught the attention of netizens on Reddit after a user reposted it on the platform.
At the heart of the continent, winter is a six-month-long night that never sees the light of day. By August, the sun starts to rise in Antarctica, and it takes about two months for it to fully shine its glory on the icy slopes. Then, from October to March, the sun never sets and shines bright for its endless days. Following the summer season, from March through May, the sun commences its descent, leaving the region in complete darkness till August.
