?A massive flood in the Dhauliganga river was reported near a village in UttarakhandĄ¯s Chamoli district, prompting authorities to launch a search and rescue operation and sounding an alert in all the districts downstream up to Haridwar, reports ANI.?
Disaster response teams have been deployed to conduct search-and-rescue and relief operations. The Army has committed four columns and three helicopters are already operating.?
Around 100 to 150 people may have been killed, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Om Prakash told news agency ANI. Authorities fear hundreds more may still be stuck. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Assam to campaign for Assembly polls, tweeted: "India stands with Uttarakhand and the nation prays for everyone's safety."??

Chief Minister Rawat tweeted and asked people not to panic or spread rumours. He stressed that district administration, the police and disaster response teams were dealing with the situation.??
"Do not pay attention to any kind of rumours. The government is taking all necessary steps. If you are stuck in the affected area, if you need any kind of help, please contact Disaster Operations Center number 1070 or 9557444486. Please do not spread rumours from old videos about the incident," Mr Rawat urged.

Officials said that settlements near the river banks from Chamoli till Rishikesh and Haridwar are being cleared. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force are reaching the area to take stock of the damage.??
