With the world under lockdown leaving human beings locked inside their homes, wild animals have started to appear inside cities. The latest incident involving an animal walking into a city involves a rhinoceros in Nepal.
In a video that has surfaced, a rhinoceros can be seen walking down the street and eventually chasing a man for a few seconds - almost playfully as if to shoo the man away. The video which has now gone viral on social media was posted on Twitter by Indian Forest Service officer, Parveen Kaswan.?
Eventually, the rhino went back to the park after he was done with his 'inspection'. Kaswan's caption for the post indicated the same, 'So this #rhino thought to take things in his own hand. Went for an inspection. By the way, rhino venturing out from forest happens a lot, even without lockdown'.
According to the information provided by the officer about the video, the rhino belongs to the Chitwan National Park and took a walk on a nearby empty street. A handful of people who were present there stayed out of the rhino's way but that didn't stop the animal from chasing a man who was trying to get away as well. Luckily, the rhino wasn't in the trampling sort of mood and continued his stroll. FYI, rhinos can run as fast as 55 km/h and weigh about 2,200 kg, on an average - so if the rhino wanted to trample the guy, there was almost nothing he could have done to save himself.
Kaswan also further explained that Chitwan National Park is the first National Park of Nepal and has a good rhino population. He also added that rhinos roaming around human civilisation is a common sight, especially in areas where there is a national park.?
The video has over 120K views on the micro-blogging website and almost 10K likes.?
Since the lockdown was announced, the country has experienced a lot of wild animals venturing into human habitation, and it just goes on to show that we're taking way too much space - even space that isn't ours to take.
