Different Perspective Or 'Tone-Deaf'? Writer Trolled For 'Insensitive' Tweet On Dry Areas In Bengaluru

Bengaluru, usually known for having pleasant weather throughout the year, is making news after being immersed knee-deep in water due to heavy floods. The unfortunate floods are taking a toll on the city and, naturally, people are concerned, online and offline.

Perhaps hoping to give a different perspective, Twitter user and writer, Preeti Shenoy decided to share a video of dry roads hoping it would present a different, less talked about picture of the city. Stating, “I thought I would tweet this because all I see are flood pics. This is near Hebbal. The floods are only in a few areas.”?

The tweet didn't sit well with netizens

One can only assume that the Twitter user was only trying to inform that the whole city is not affected by the destructive floods. But in turn, got brutally trolled.?

Explaining how the two things are totally unrelated, a user sarcastically commented, “Preeti do you also get on a flight and later tell people that you didn’t feel the earthquake?” To this, another user added, “Maybe she will have lunch and tell us that hunger and malnutrition isn't [sic] a problem.”?

A user compared her tweet to the award-winning Korean movie Parasite, which is a satire on the privileged class, and shared a still from the movie that shows the difference between two classes that exist in a society.?

Another user reminded the woman that tomorrow it could be them also and emphasized speaking up for the ones who are suffering. The user wrote, “Does not really matter, Preeti. Our area is unaffected too, but have enough and more friends badly affected due to the waterlogging. So we should really help them amplify their pains today, for tomorrow it could be us.

The woman also clarified what she meant as she replied, “I am not for a moment saying that it’s okay those areas are flooded. (You can see my other tweets ) But the media makes it out like WHOLE blr is which is not right. That was my point.”

Netizens, however, are affected by the 'tone-deaf' tweet. A user wrote, “Now people in the affected areas can go about their lives happily. Also, I hope you’re only tone deaf in SOME of your tweets.”
