Drinking in driving is one of the many vices of indulging in alcohol. Every year, around 1.25 million road accidents are reported worldwide among which 273,000 involve a drunk driver. While a casual drink hardly does any harm to anyone, a crazy night out has the potential to turn bloody thanks to bad decisions.

To help people make better decisions a local bar made the call to add a breathalyzer and attached it to one of their walls. A Redditor took to the platform to share a glimpse of the device hanging on the bar wall and wrote, “They installed a breathalyzer at my local bar, ‘for educational purposes only.’”

The location of the bar is still unknown. Although in India such a hack is still unheard of, people in the comments section of the post shared that this is a rather common practice at their local bars. These people were mostly from the U.S.?

The image of the breathalyzer shows how the machine installed works like a vending machine. It starts up after a quarter is inserted into one of its slots. Besides the usual instructions, the breathalyzer also instructed people to use its assistance for “educational purposes only” and instructed them to “drink responsibly.”

Along with the cautionary statements, the machine also advised people to wait at least 10 minutes before their last drink to get accurate results. One user agreed with the instruction and shared, “This is honestly true, though. Went to a bar with this once. People were blowing like 0.50 because they were doing it immediately after drinking liquor. To be clear, no one was actually at 0.50 abv. They’d probably have been dead, not seeing who could make the breathalyzer go highest.”

The idea of installing a breathalyzer is somewhat convenient for the customers and can even be a boon to ensure safety for them, occasionally even saving them from a traffic ticket. However, many in the comments shared that in their areas the breathalyzer which is installed to help people drink responsibly is often used as a toy.

Customers at the bars with breathalyzers end up turning into a contest about who could score more points on the scale and doing away with the actual purpose of hanging the breathalyzer on the wall in the first place.?
