A businessman from Chennai built a miniature Taj Mahal in honour of his mother out of a special love for her. The businessman's hometown of Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu, where a small Taj Mahal that cost Rs 5 crore was built, is attracting tourists from all across the region.?
The sole male of the five siblings and a hardware trader in Chennai is Amrudeen Sheikh Dawood Sahib. His father, Abdul Kader Sheikh Dawood, ran a leather products firm in Chennai. But Abdul Kader Sheikh passed away when his kids were still quite little.
His wife, Jailani Beevi, was a tenacious woman who worked hard to manage the business and raise their family of five, which included four daughters. After the four sisters were married off, Amrudeen Sheikh followed suit and had children of his own.?
Jailani Beevi passed away in 2020, which came as a huge shock to Amarudeen because he was the one who had worked in the shop with his mother since he was a very young child and had always been on the go.?
She died on a new moon day, and Amarudeen made the decision to feed 1,000 people biryani on every new moon day after that.?
Amarudeen felt that this was insufficient, therefore he later had the concept to build a miniature Taj Mahal for his mother. At his ancestral hamlet of Ammayiappan, he purchased a plot of ground measuring one acre, and with the help of a friend who is a builder, he began work on the memorial.?
The monument was opened to the public on June 2 after the owner purchased marble from Rajasthan and constructed pathways and walkways around it in a manner similar to the Taj Mahal in Agra.?
It has madrasas where 10 students are currently housed and meditation facilities where people of all faiths can meditate. However, Amarudeen did not promote the Taj Mahal of the South, and word of mouth was how people learned about it.?
