Time and again, this society has let the women down. From being raped in broad daylight to being subjected to acid attacks, women continue to be humiliated, and that too in full public view. Disgusting incidents of eve-teasing, men masturbating in front of women, have been on the rise. What¡¯s worse? Nobody even comes forward to help - at times, not even those whose job is to protect us - the police!
We just read in storybooks and fairytales that this world is a good place to live in, but as we come closer to the reality it is just the opposite. We live in 2019 and if women still have to go through awful things like what happened in Gurugram, then it's just shameful.
While most politicians in India talk about the safety of women and do not act upon it, a woman shared a harrowing incident that happened inside a Metro station in Gurugram. The woman alleged that a man masturbated on her, while she was taking an escalator at the Huda City Center.

She narrated her ordeal on a Twitter thread: ¡®Shameful that I have to write this incident that happened with me inside the HUDA CITY CENTRE METRO COMPLEX. It was 9:25 PM when I was walking out of HnM store which is inside the station complex itself on 14th June 2019.¡¯
She further wrote, ¡®I was climbing down escalators just outside the store when I felt something was wrong at my back. When I turned, a guy was shagging just behind me and I realised that he masturbated on me. #gurgaonpolice #gurgaonmetro.¡¯
After this she turned and slapped him hard, and he replied by hurling abuses at her and guess what the onlookers did? Nothing.?
They just watched the entire incident unfold without doing anything whatsoever. The guy then ran away and the girl also ran outside towards the police chowki, but to her surprise it was closed and there was nobody.
¡®I was shocked, scared, traumatised. And I feel shame that metro, which is supposed to be the safest mode of transport for women, where chief minister is offering free rides to women, lacks clearly in making it safe in the first place... We don't want free rides, we want safety which every government promises but none has been able to provide us. We fear walking out. Was 9:25 really that late?¡¯ the woman wrote.??
Gurugram police also replied to her Twitter thread and wrote ¡®Sir/Mam ACP Usha Kundu with her team has visited the scene of crime (HUDA City Center Metro Station) and is coordinating with DMRC for collection of evidences.¡¯
It is really shameful that on one hand, women are being promised free rides in metro and government buses in order to promote safety, and on the other hand, incidents like this are growing day by day.
The woman said that the police called her up for help but it was too late.
A country who cannot hang their rapists, who cannot keep their women safe should feel ashamed. What is the hold up? Do we need another rape case, acid attack or abduction case? Guess what, we have scores of them every day. Girls are taught to be safe, to wear proper clothes, to not go out at night, and yet no one blames the perpetrators of these crimes.
