A woman's post regarding claimed discrimination against North Indians in Bengaluru triggered a social media debate. Taking to X (previously Twitter), the woman, known as Shaani Nani on X, described the difficulties she encountered in India's Silicon Valley during her 1.5-year stay.
In a series of posts, she claimed that auto drivers harassed her by asking why she was in Bengaluru when she belonged in the north. They also pretended they couldn't understand her when she spoke in Hindi or English.?
"I was so engulfed by the negativity around me," she stated in one of her posts. She further stated that due to the difficulties, she opted to relocate to Gurugram.
"I was working in Bangalore for 1.5 years. Married in Punjab, I wore chooda for the entire 1 year as it is a part of my tradition. It was clearly evident I was from North India. What harassing it was to commute in auto from flat to office and back. The audacity of local auto drivers to strike a conversation on why I was in Bangalore when I belonged to North, if I was learning Kannada, asking if I like anything apart from weather, asking for more money as I was newly married and pretending not to understand a word when I would talk in Hin/Eng. I had a very bad experience with local crowd there," the X user wrote.
In the subsequent post, she alleged that BESCOM's customer service had also treated her poorly. "When I called BESCOM to complain about a power outage, the person said, 'No Hindi, no English, only Kannada'. They just want to address the difficulties of Kannada speakers," she wrote.?
The woman stated that she was "engulfed by the negativity" surrounding her.?
She found the weather dismal. "It rained all the time. We cannot go out. If we want to go out, we can't find cabs. If we find a cab, it will take hours to get somewhere owing to gridlock and waterlogging. "I was stuck in my house." Due to such difficulties, she stated that she had decided to relocate to Gurugram.?I decided to quit my job because I was so homesick." I've noticed a significant difference in my energy level after moving to Gurgaon. I go for long walks, eat well, and can travel wherever I want. "No awkward conversations with car drivers," she stated.
