A few days ago, a giraffe was born with no spots in a Tennessee zoo. Everyone was shocked and overwhelmed by this, but now this viral baby has a name, and it's too cute to handle.
This magnificent animal has captivated the whole world, and the one awaited moment has finally arrived: the name of the baby giraffe.
The name of the gorgeous 5-week-old giraffe was unveiled live on Sept. 5 by officials at the Brights Zoo, a family-owned facility in Limestone, Tennessee, after weeks of online voting by the public.
Kipekee is the name! This beautiful name means "unique" in Swahili. Approximately 40,000 people voted for the name.
The zoo requested supporters vote on four names: Kipekee, Firyali (which means "unusual or extraordinary"), Shakiri (which means "she is most beautiful"), and Jamella (which means "one of great beauty.")
Kipekee garnered just over 16,000 votes, defeating the name Shakiri, which received over 10,000.
Brights Zoo says that she is the world's only known solid-coloured?reticulated giraffe. Her subspecies are reticulated giraffes.
According to David Bright, Kipekee is the only giraffe of her breed born without spots since one born in Tokyo in 1972.
"So there are no other living giraffes of this colour," he explained.
According to the Limestone Zoo, the kid, born July 31, is already 6 feet tall.
"She's still very laid back, curious about everything, and checking things out every day," Bright explained.
The story of this pristine beauty began when wildlife enthusiasts discovered it in a distant area of a national park.?
Giraffes are noted for their distinguishing markings, which serve as concealment and unique identifiers. Conversely, she broke the norm by having a very smooth and pristine coat.
Giraffes' spotted coat pattern provides more than camouflage in the wild. According to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, each spot, or patch, contains a system of blood veins beneath the area that works as a thermal window and allows body heat to escape.
